The 4 Opposite Pairs (The 8 Core Emotions)
Joy / Sadness
Anger / Fear
Trust / Disgust
Surprise / Anticipation
How Emotions Branch and Intersect
In this theory, emotions diversify in two ways: through intensity and blending.
1. By Intensity (From weak to strong)
Each primary emotion has different degrees. For example:
Sadness: Starts as Pensiveness → turns into Sadness → intensifies into Grief.
Anger: Starts as Annoyance → turns into Anger → intensifies into Rage.
2. Complex Emotions (Blending)
When two core emotions overlap, a completely new secondary feeling is born:
Joy + Trust = Love
Anger + Disgust = Contempt
Fear + Surprise = Awe
Anticipation + Joy = Optimism
Sadness + Disgust = Remorse
